Warburton CFA suggests the following precautions when visiting the snow:
Things you need to know before you go -
1. Have you assessed your ability to drive in the snow? Think twice about proceeding if it starts to look thick and feels slippery. Driving on ice and snow is sketchy! You're in a multi tonne piece of moving metal that wants to only move in a straight line. When you turn, you slide. Remember to slow down and do not proceed if you don't have quality chains fitted to your front wheels. Even getting to the Ten Mile car park may be difficult let alone the summit.
2. Have a full tank of fuel. If you get stuck because of an accident below you it may be a long time until emergency services can attend and assist at the scene. If your fuel runs out, so does your nice warm car.
3. Take warm clothing, water, food and a charged phone.
Take safety seriously. Please be orderly and safe and have a great time in the snow.
There is Toboggan Hire on Mt Donna Buang at the summit on weekends (and other times according to conditions) during the peak snow season. During these times, there may also be a food van selling hot food and drinks at the summit.
For Toboggan, purchases try Warburton Tru Value Hardware or Yarra Junction Hardware.
Limited general snow apparel can be purchased on the main street of Warburton. Try The Chookhouse and Lace N’ Things. Please come prepared.
