For more than 65 years, enthusiastic members of the local commmunity have joined together as the Warburton Advancement League (WAL) to present a concise and consistent voice on issues relevant to Warburton's growth, prosperity and authenticity. WIth the preservation and development of the river tracks around the Yarra a key achievement, WAL can also be acknowledged for a range of projects, big and small, that add to the community.
When: Established in 1953, WAL is an lncorporated committee of 15 people, serving 3-year terms, with 5 positions vacated every AGM (held in November).
Why: For the advancement of the Warburton District, ie. promoting works of improvement, working with Yarra Ranges Council, other township groups and our State and Federal MPs encouraging local trade and attracting visitors.
What: lt would be fair to say that for any community facility in Warburton, be it Parks - lncluding the Caravan Park, Buildings, 6 kilometres of River Walking Tracks, Swimming Pool (unfortunatly now closed), Town Entrance Signage, Redwood Bridge, Community Bus and Millgrove War Memorial, the WAL was the main driving force in lobbying, constructing, maintaining and funding these ventures.
Along with these projects the WAL has been a major player in any community event held in Warburton, eg. Easter Carnival (1960s), Carols by Candlelight, Warburton Up & Running, Cycle Fest and more.
Who: Anybody who has a passion to be involved in the future of Warburton, be it fundraising, helping with grant applications and submissions to Council, general committee work or maintenance of tracks. Please feel free to attend our monthly meeting (3rd Wednesday) at the Yarra Ranges Enterprise Centre (YREC), which is located on Woods Point Rd opposite the Warburton Hoiday Park.
