ANNOUNCING: The River Folk Festival 2019!
The beautiful Yarra Valley is set to host the 2nd River Folk Festival in 2019, based in the hidden gem of Warburton!
Warburton’s own folk festival – The River Folk Festival has now announced its highly anticipated line-up of international and national folk festival favourites and a delightful array of local acts, set to colour the Yarra Valley with beautiful music this March 15th-17th!
The weekend promises to be a delight of world-class music, across multiple venues in the town, with a collection of international acts, including the exquisite Red Tail Ring (USA), longtime Australia folk festival favourite, troubadour Scott Cook (Canada), and internationally acclaimed songstress Dana Sipos (Canada). In addition, Melbourne balkan gypsy heavyweights Hello Tut Tut and The Seduceaphones will have everyone on their feet and dancing in seconds, along with Bourke Street legends Malcura and southern Italian nu-folk band Santa Taranta.
The Festival will again host Nia Dance and Yoga Loves Music sessions, for those wanting a bit of stretching and movement in the morning, before chilling out with the likes of the ever loveable Tom Richardson, Cass Curran, from northern NSW, or The Mandy Connell Trio.
Or if the quiet and delicate is more your style, St Mary’s Church will host some of the most exquisite acts of the Festival: Melbourne storyteller and songwriter Lucy Wise, the haunting and beautiful Charm of Finches, Dutch-born songbird Joyce Prescher, and the classically trained cello-wielding Sage.
With a strong commitment to supporting the local community, the Bear & Moon Productions team behind the Festival have programmed an array of local acts, including local legends The Anecdote, quirky 5 piece Belgrave outfit The Bean Project, wild and raucous Lily and King, the soulful lyrics of Kristian Mizzi, Phoebe like the Moon, Tinman, Cath Connelly on Celtic Harp, Spiritus, Orpheus in the Underworld, Woody’s World for children, Lucy Pierce, and Hannah Schmidli, as well as a Youth Music Mentoring Program for aspiring local young musicians.
One of the highlights of the Festival will undoubtedly be the Sisters of Song – a women only showcase celebrating the talent of female musicians, both local, national and international, in honour of International Women’s Day on March 8th.
In addition to a stellar folk music lineup, the Festival will play host to a marketplace, numerous workshops, as well as a dedicated Children’s Space with storytelling, felting, face-painting and other activities for young children and the young at heart.
With multiple venues across the picturesque town of Warburton in the Yarra Valley, including 2 free stages for locals and visitors alike, this is a lively weekend of music not to be missed!
Tickets are limited and on sale now - children under 16 FREE!
