James Halliday has been part of the Australian wine industry since 1970. Since the mid eighties he has chosen to make the cool climate of the Yarra Valley home and to pursue his passion for making Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The history of beer in the Yarra Valley is believed to go back to the early 1800s when growing hops was a major farming activity in the region. Whilst hops farms have disappeared today except for the odd hop kiln remains, the craft breweries in the Valley are working hard to make sure beer remains an important part of the Valley’s past, present and future. The Yarra Valley is also one of Victoria’s oldest cider regions and was the birthplace of Australian Champagne cider. It is believed that cider production dates back to the 19th century and records show cider production by Mac’s Lilydale cider from as early as 1934.
